Adding Houseplants to Home Accessories and Décor

Design trends change almost monthly, and redecorating your house with every shift is both impractical and too expensive to keep with the times. Rather than try to incorporate every new style as it’s released, a wiser option is to decorate with perennial materials. A few choices in home accessories and décor will never go out of style, and the display of live houseplants is one of them.

Some people prefer them for the color, some claim their presence leads to a noticeable increase in oxygen, and others just like plants. Whatever the motivation, houseplants add an interesting and vivacious element to a home. The addition of something live powerfully illuminates even the most drab and dull of spaces—and most houseplants require much less care and maintenance than even a fish. Once they have an appropriate position near sunlight, pouring in a cup of water or setting a few ice cubes at the soil base is the most attention that the majority of plants need.

They’re not without a function either. Most herbs like basil and rosemary excel in a home, providing a subtle but alluring scent and a fresh (and free) ingredient to your cooking. Larger plants like yucca canes and small trees can fill an empty space or cover a bare wall more ornately than a fine sculpture or screen print. And if you do want to remain up to date with as many trends as possible, houseplants can be repotted into any container, adding life and current style while decorating your home.
