If you have a wonderful sofa and chairs, yet want to completely change the look and feel of your living room, replacing the small living room furniture can accomplish your goal without costing a fortune.  Regardless of the style, a high quality sofa and chairs will provide the foundation for any number of fashion themes.

Let’s say your walls are a neutral color, and your sofa and chairs are varying shades of warm brown.  This is an excellent starting point from which you can create any number of moods.  Because the walls are neutral, and the basic furniture is brown, wood will work very well.  A coffee table with wrought iron legs will set a direction.  Matching end tables will continue the theme.  Between the chairs another table, similar in design, can be used to further develop the theme.

A wall of wooden bookshelves can be used to hold books and a variety of objects that will add depth and character.  Statuettes, small pictures, small vases, colorful glass dishes, clocks, and other items can add interest without clutter.  The warmth of interesting pieces gives a homey, inviting look that you and your family will be happy to come home to.  If the room is sunny, adding real plants can bring life to the room.  Punch up the color factor by placing glass balls, flowers, or butterflies in the hanging baskets and planters.

A final touch that will bring the whole room together is the selection of a rug.  There’s already plenty of brown and wood tones in the room.  A brown rug would probably be redundant.  A colorful, plush rug, perhaps in blue, green, or yellow tones (depending on the color of your other accessories), would reach out to the colors scattered all over the room and bring balance and continuity.

After you’re finished, you’ll be amazed at what you’ve accomplished with small living room furniture.  Without changing the most expensive components of the room, the sofa and chairs, you have created a completely new look at a fraction of the cost.  Sit back and enjoy—you’ve earned it.
