Why to Use Mirrors in Home Wall Décor

We’re a pretty narcissistic species. Men and women both spend countless hours every year observing themselves in mirrors. Whether it’s to make sure a shirt fits correctly, to find and reset the contact lens that got dislodged, or just to bask in the majesty of one’s own face, people look at themselves all the time. A mirror is irresistible to people of all self-confidence levels, but that’s not why it should be used in home wall décor. Sure, it never hurts to oblige the vanity of your guests, but mirrors will make them feel welcome just by opening up the room.

Home wall décor can really easily be a double-edged sword. Eyes are naturally drawn to paintings, sconces, and tapestries, but a cluttered wall can become oppressive as easily as welcoming. While a bare wall looks sterile and depressing, a packed wall absorbs light and creates a claustrophobic atmosphere. One middle ground is simply to decorate lightly, but especially in small rooms and homes, a mirror serves a dual purpose as a piece of home wall décor.

Naturally reflective, a mirror will not only double the size of a room visually, but it receives and transmits light back into other walls and areas. The larger it is, the more effective it will be at expanding and opening up a space. Moreover, most modern mirrors are designed as elegantly and intricately as any piece of art. So by hanging a few mirrors in lieu of prints, you can add flair and personality to a room without overcrowding its walls.
