So how do you find one that \u201cgets\u201d you and your vision for your space? \u00a0These five questions can help you determine whether a potential interior designer is a good match for your home interior design project.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Do you have a signature style?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWhen I first entered the field, I felt very strongly that if you\u2019re a good designer you can capture anyone\u2019s style exactly,\u201d <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sunset.com\/home\/decorating\/home-decorators\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">interior designer Cara Scarola told <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sunset<\/span><\/i><\/a><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u201cNow I disagree.\u201d Scarola has since come to realize that designers work best on projects that appeal to their unique sensibilities. Perhaps the simplest way to know if that sensibility agrees with yours? Scarola recommends asking to see the designer\u2019s home, as well as samples of their work.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Interior designer Mark D. Sikes, meanwhile, proposes asking questions which \u201cget to the heart of a designer\u2019s aesthetic,\u201d <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.architecturaldigest.com\/story\/questions-to-ask-an-interior-designer-before-you-hire-them\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">according to <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Architectural Digest<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. His list of question? &#8220;What are your design signatures? What project have you designed that was your favorite? What are your favorite colors to use in your projects? What&#8217;s your favorite room or home of all time, and why? Where is your favorite travel destination and how do those elements reflect in your work?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>Do you have a preferred level of client involvement?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Do you expect to be directly involved throughout the design process, or are you looking to pass along full creative control? Knowing the designer\u2019s expectations for client involvement can help you achieve an optimal working relationship.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This is also an opportunity to determine how a designer will communicate with you regarding your home decor. Detailed drawings, floor plans, a schedule, and budget are all indicators of effective project management.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>How can you translate my style to the space?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A good designer should be able to understand your aesthetic and translate it into a cohesive and compelling interior design. This can occur through several techniques, including everything from showing you photos to assessing what\u2019s already in your home. \u201cYou don\u2019t have to understand why you like something, just that you have a positive reaction. We\u2019ll figure the rest out,\u201d continued Scarola.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Developing a firm sense of how you live is just as important for a designer. After all, a truly chic and comfortable home is about much more than looks, but also livability.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>How do you determine which projects are a fit for you?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Just like all interior designers aren\u2019t right for all design projects, nor are all projects right for all designers. This is why it\u2019s critical to determine whether your priorities are in alignment &#8212; before committing to work together.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we consult with a potential project, several factors help to determine if it will be a good fit for me and my team. The most important factor is whether or not it is a good personality fit.
