2018 Home Decorating Trends

2018 home trends

Can you believe it’s the end of the year already? It’s been such a fun and exciting one for us with the rebrand of our logo and contemporary update to the showroom. With the new year approaching, we’ve been looking to see what’s next in colors, patterns and décor. Today, we’re sharing which 2018 home decorating trends you can look forward to incorporating in your home.

Overall, you might recognize these as “older trends” but some are getting a modern twist. Groovy lines and bold character inspire the upcoming new year’s color and pattern trends. Earlier this month, Pantone announced “ultra violet” as the color of the year! Homeowners are also making more intentional purchases when it comes to furniture and décor. It’s not only about aesthetic; furniture also needs to be purposeful and long lasting. If this sounds familiar to you, you might be ahead of the curve!

Decorating Trends to Look for in 2018

  • Velvet

This royal fabric made an appearance this year and it’s here to stay. From couches to throw pillows and even curtains – velvet adds a warmer, cozier atmosphere (and texture) to any interior.

  • Natural materials

Homeowners want to include more natural elements like wood into their home. (Shiplap, anyone?) This can also be found in bowls, architectural features and furniture. Including natural materials in a home creates a more inviting look than laminate or plastic. Other natural materials we see are wicker, jute and woven furniture.

  • Plants

Following a natural materials theme, indoor plants have been on an upward trend as well. You’ll find that live and artificial plants brighten up any home, and “a bouquet of fresh flowers” is every designer’s secret interior home tip.
  • Bold patterns

Wallpapers are making a comeback, especially geometric and floral patterns. You might see one accent wall or you might see a room with all four sides of wallpaper. Bold patterns add character and personal flair to a home. Don’t limit yourself to wallpaper either – this trend is also seen on backsplashes and furniture.

  • Brass

Move over, rose gold, there’s a new metal in town. You’ve seen this one before and it’s back to make its second appearance in 2018. Easy ways to incorporate brass is by changing out your bathroom hardware and finding home accents such as brass vases or lamps.

No matter what you decide, decorate for your style and what makes you happy. You don’t have to commit to wallpapering your house today, but if you’re curious, take baby steps. Look at wallpaper samples, invest in a brass lamp or buy a low-maintenance indoor plant.
