Thanksgiving Table Settings

For entertainers, the most wonderful time of the year is here: Thanksgiving. If you’re the host or hostess this year, you know that the table setting is a big deal (next to the menu). There’s a way to celebrate the season without it feeling over the top or tacky. Your Thanksgiving table settings guide is here and now you’re one step closer to creating a memorable, festive table.

 

Thanksgiving Table Essentials:

  • Centerpiece
  • Table runner
  • Candles and votive holders
  • Placemats
  • Chargers
  • Place cards
  • Napkins
  • Napkin rings
  • A large enough table for your guests
  • Extra seating

 

These aren’t all necessary, but it’s a nice checklist if you don’t know where to begin. Above all, get a headcount to make sure your table can seat everyone. If you have a large table, you can get some chairs to provide extra seating. And before you buy anything, plan your table setting. You can keep it cohesive by following a theme or color scheme. It helps create the mood for your guests.

 

If you’re planning a contemporary table setting, choose a non-traditional color scheme such as black or deep purple. Then accent with metallic colors such as gold flatware or napkin rings. Spray-pained gold pumpkins and leaves also make good accent features for your modern vibe.

 

If you want it to feel rustic and natural, look for a burlap-type table runner, neutral (linen) napkin colors and plaid placemats. Look at heirloom pumpkins to inspire your color palette: soft white, pale green, orange and grey. Accent your table with magnolia leaves, acorns and pinecones. Or, learn how to fold an angled pocket napkin with Martha Stewart and skip the napkin ring.

Don’t forget to set up your bar cart for the holiday season! It’s the ultimate entertaining piece. If you provide a list of seasonal drinks with ingredients and directions, your guests can make their own drinks. This allows them to try their bartending skills while you focus on other entertaining duties.
