The Hottest Textile Trends Right Now

Posted on August 15th, 2018 by Hannah.

The world of fabric has what feels like limitless possibilities. It’s wonderful because textiles can instantly change the look of your room without completely redecorating. We’ll always have the simple stripe pattern or classic dots, but we’ve seen a lot of beautiful patterns and textures that can easily transform your home. You might have noticed them already, but if you haven’t, we bet you’ll start seeing them everywhere you go. Here are the hottest textile trends right now:

rolled colorful fabric

1. Velvet

This fabric was included in our 2018 Home Decorating Trends blog, and it’s not going away anytime soon. Velvet furniture and accent pieces instantly adds a plush and stylish feel to a room.

2. Nature-Inspired Patterns

There’s something about bringing the outdoors inside your home, whether it’s in the form of an actual plant or found on your walls or curtains. The color of tropical or botanical patterns can add an exotic and lively atmosphere to your home. Large-scale floral is eye-catching, and can be found in many different forms like prints, woven or embroidered.

3. Faux Fur

Faux fur helps create an inviting and warm space. It’s a fabric that can make any room look and feel 100 percent cozier. The popularity of faux fur has grown so much that you might even not be able to tell the difference between faux and real.

4. Mudcloth

This beautiful textile isn’t new (in fact, it originates from West Africa centuries ago), but we’ve seen it in stores more and more these days. Often found in neutral colors (black, white and grey), it’s the perfect tool to add another layer to your home.

5. Ikat

This was originally found in Asia and South America but has made its way to our living rooms. The word “ikat” comes from Indonesia, and references the yarn, pattern and technique of the fabric. Ikat rugs are beautiful and is a must-have for a bohemian-style room.

Is there a textile or pattern that peaks your interest? Before you leap into a big investment or furniture piece, you can always try it with a couple of throw pillows or curtains. If you’re thinking about getting a rug, don’t forget to get the right measurements — you can read all about choosing the perfect rug here.
