Isn’t there the saying…“spread Christmas cheer for all to hear?” We believe seeing Christmas cheer is just as important! If you have an undecorated fireplace mantel, it’s time to get it into the holiday spirit. It doesn’t have to be elaborate…unless you want it to be. Today, we’re giving the tips you need to create the best holiday mantel yet.
(If you didn’t catch it last month, we wrote about the hottest holiday decorating trends and you can find ideas for a festive living room, table-setting or bar cart.)
Holiday Mantel Ideas
There are a lot of directions you can go in when it comes to your mantel, so let your imagination go wild. If you need a starting point, choose a color palette and work from there. Red and green is a classic combination, but you can also choose a deep, royal blue, a natural green and white or go white and sparkly. Do you want to go in a refined and elegant direction, informal and fun or natural and rustic? Reflect your mantel to your personality. If you have your tree up already, you can take elements and adapt it to your mantel.
To make a cozier light setting, you can place hurricanes on either side of your mantel with candles inside like these ones by Theodore Alexander or elegant ones by Wildwood Lamps. Soft string lights wrapped around a cedar or pine garland is another way to bring light and greenery to your home for the holidays.
If you collect holiday trinkets or receive cards from friends and family, the mantel is an excellent place for both. You can cover the surface with faux snow and make a small winter wonderland, or utilize your mantel as a display shelf for your cards. Using citrus, cranberries or fresh seasonal flowers can add texture and brightness to your mantel as well.
