During these months of summer, you’re probably getting a lot of sunlight in your bedroom. Or is this not the case? Do you have a room that’s facing north, a room that lacks enough windows or a room that is a little too dark and it’s affecting your mood? Maybe it’s time for a room refresh for the summer. Here are five ideas on how you can get a summer bedroom.

One of the simplest ways to lighten up your bedroom is a mirror, especially if you’re limited in the amount of windows in your room. By placing a mirror across your window, it will provide the most reflective light to the rest of your bedroom. Use one large mirror or a series of small ones. Not only do mirrors add light, it adds another dimension to your summer bedroom!
It seems like common sense, but ask yourself how often you clean your windows. If you see a small film of dust, it’s time to clean it up. You will be surprised at how much brighter your room will be with dust-free windows.
Speaking of windows, have you thought about switching out your curtains? Translucent curtains will allow more sunlight to enter your bedroom. If you’re a person who can’t do translucent curtains, consider opting for lighter colors that will still give you the darkness you need at night.
If it’s impossible to get direct sunlight into your bedroom because you have too few windows, pay attention to your lighting. Where you place them is extremely important and can change the way your room looks. If you have indirect lighting aimed upward, this can make up for your lack of lighting. In addition, placing a lamp diagonally from your bedside light can help balance your lighting.
Another way to brighten your summer bedroom is to change up your bedding. If you have dark walls that you want to avoid painting, balance it out with varying shades of softer colors for sheets, pillows and other bedroom decor. You can see our selection of bedding online and at our showroom.
Redesigning your room can be intimidating, but it can be a fun experiment to see what works and what doesn’t. These are small changes you can make to brighten your bedroom, and you can always start with one change first.
