How to Create the Perfect Guest Room

Whether it’s your old college roommate, your parents or your brother-in-law, having a guest stay over can be a lot of fun. How can you create the best experience at your house? By creating a guest room that will make them comfortable. The key? Be prepared. Small touches can make a big difference. Here are six ways you can create a guest room that is ready for any kind of guest (including the forgetful ones!).

Stock Up on Guest Essentials

Have everything your guest needs…and then some. Stock up on toiletries such as shampoo, body wash, toothpaste and extra toothbrushes in case your guest forgets. Give them some reading material and put some easy-to-read books or magazines on the nightstand. Last but not least, provide your guest with a glass, carafe of water or some bottles of water. This way they don’t have to wander if they’re thirsty at night.

 

Check Your Lighting

Speaking of nighttime, does your guest have proper lighting? Don’t leave them in the dark without bedside lighting! Having a lamp nearby will allow them to read in bed and the convenience to switch off the light without having to get out of bed too. “What’s the Wi-Fi password?”

It’s inevitable that your guest will ask you for the Wi-Fi password. Be one step ahead by writing down any security codes, passwords and having an extra key for them by the time they arrive. Having an extra key will be convenient for your guest to go and come as they please.

 

Supply Fresh Sheets and Towels

There’s nothing better than fresh, clean laundry! Your guest will feel right at home when they don’t have to worry about bringing extra blankets or towels. If you want to take it to the next level, add a luxurious robe. You can place these on their bed, or have a designated basket and keep them there for future guests.

 

Give Them a Tour (Even If You Can’t)

If your guest is coming on a day where you don’t have the day off from work, give them some information about your town. Suggest where they can find local coffee, where they can grab lunch nearby, or a public park they can go to if they want to enjoy the outdoors. They might have done their own research, but it’s great in case they didn’t.

 

Guest Room Alternative

If you don’t have a guest room, but you have a lot of visitors, consider buying a sleeper sofa. Be sure to clear a space for your sleeper sofa guest so they feel like they still have a space of their own to put their luggage. Even if you do have a guest room, having an extra place to sleep can always come in handy.
