Translating the Latest Fashion Trends Into Your Home

Posted on March 13th, 2019 by Hannah.

Bring the latest fashion trends into your home with wild prints, like this dresser
If Miranda Priestly’s notorious monologue from The Devil Wears Prada on the important history of “cerulean” taught us anything, it’s that fashion often trickles down to influence other avenues of design. Take the art of decorating your home, for example: As highly personal as fashion, decor allows you to showcase your signature style and taste. Those who prefer to express themselves through their clothing and accessory choices can bring that same enthusiasm to furnishing a space. Look to some of the biggest trends from the Fall 2019 runways of New York, London, Milan, and Paris to inspire a fashion-forward makeover in any room in your home.

Checks, Please

“Fashion trends are bleeding into home décor and design,” says Taylor Morrison’s design gallery and model home branding manager Lee Crowder. “If you paid attention to fashion week, you would have seen browns and tartan plaids being very prominent this year, and those are some of the same trends we’re seeing in furniture design and accessories. If you see it on the runway, you will start seeing it trickle down into home fashion shortly thereafter.” New twists on timeless tartans were huge news at shows on both sides of the Atlantic, from Michael Kors to Christian Dior to Givenchy. Bring the perennially chic feel of plaid into your space in big and small doses, whether you want the bold statement of a graphic area rug or subtle touches of pattern in decorative canisters.

Shades of the Season

“Millennial Pink” has reigned supreme as the It color since its earliest incarnations back in 2014, but some fresh hues have been gaining ground this year. Two of the runway’s biggest stars this year — purple and green — were unexpected additions to the collections of Tom Ford, Christian Siriano, Louis Vuitton, and Stella McCartney. And the two colors will render beautifully in your home. Dunn-Edwards design blog’s notes: “Greens of many shades are becoming popular as people look to bring tranquility and a connection with nature into their residential spaces. We’ve seen lime greens on the fashion runways and emerald and forest greens emerging in interiors.” Visit our showroom for a full spectrum of these standout colors, including eggplant, sage, and malachite variations worth swooning over: BS Trading’s Acid-Washed CowhideHoward Elliott’s PillowPacific Coast Lighting’s Leaves Table LampCentury Furniture’s Jilin Bunching Dresser, and Wildwood Accessories’ Eco Vase

The Wild Side

“Interior designers have long felt the call of the wild. In fact, we were once told that every classic home design should have one statement-making animal print,” shares Boston Design Guide editor Sandy Giardi. Statement-making animals were a highlight of the NYC shows. Heavy hitters Marc Jacobs, Anna Sui, Proenza Schouler, and Phillip Lim showed luxurious leopard spots, right-now zebra stripes, and metallic snakeskin motifs. While standout, animal prints are practically a wardrobe neutral at this point, and that versatility works especially well in interior design — even in larger furnishings like leather wing chairscoffee tables, and bar cabinets
