Have you made the decision to sell your beloved home? Staging can be a key part in the selling process because it helps potential homebuyers visually see how they can make your house their home. Staging doesn’t have to be a big event, it’s about arranging, cleaning and adding some finishing touches. Consider following these simple tips to stage your house.

Simple Tips to Stage Your House

Declutter. Remove items that you don’t need between now and moving day. This is a great opportunity to take things to donate or resell. The idea behind decluttering is to create more space. Buyers are looking for storage space and decluttering can help paint that picture.

Do a deep clean. Dust and wipe your windows, vacuum the carpet and clean the grout —no one wants to see a messy house, especially prospective homebuyers. Doing a deep clean shows that you’ve taken care of your house. Be sure to remove pet toys, food dishes and water bowls.

Let there be light. There is something inviting and warm about natural light. If you have a lot of windows, open the blinds and pull back the curtains! Potential buyers often comment on how much light is in a home. If you don’t have a lot of natural lighting, keep it bright by turning on the lights in every room.

Be neutral. Beiges, whites and other neutral colors allow the buyer to see a blank canvas for their potential new home. You’re trying to appeal to a broader audience, keep that in mind.

Rearrange your furniture. We know that your couch is most likely pointed at the TV, but when you stage a home, aim to create conversational arrangements. So instead, face chairs and couches toward each other. Don’t be afraid to mix it up to create purposeful spaces.

Take it outside. When a buyer first pulls up to your house, the first thing they’ll see is your home’s exterior. Show them that you have beautiful curb appeal by mowing your lawn, trimming the bushes, pressure cleaning the windows and rearranging your outdoor furniture. This will help them imagine the possibilities for their family like movie nights or backyard grilling parties.

Add a few finishing touches.
Replacing cabinet fixtures is an easy way to instantly upgrade your home, and a vase of fresh flowers can add a pop of color and freshness.

Taking a little time to stage your house can make a big difference in selling. Remember to keep the buyers in mind, and how you would want to see a potential home for yourself.
